The Memphis Grizzlies are experiencing their first speedbump in a quick start while the Brooklyn Nets are encountering massive struggles in fourth quarters of late. Off to a respectable start after losing 60 games, the Grizzlies take a three-game losing streak into Friday's visit to the Brooklyn Nets, who are on a five-game home losing streak after a pair of nightmarish fourth quarters. The Grizzlies bolted to a 12-5 start when Mike Conley scored 30 points and Marc Gasol hit two free throws with 0.7 seconds left in a 104-103 win at San Antonio on Nov. 21.
Marc Gasol had a big night (and an apparently minor injury), while Blake Griffin led all scorers with 30. Matt Stroup breaks it down in the Dose.
The Grizzlies fired David Fizdale last year due to his rift with Marc Gasol. Fizdale returned to Memphis yesterday, coaching the Knicks to a satisfying win. Gasol and Fizdale made their peace during a phone conversation over the summer, putting to rest the differences that led Memphis management to fire Fizdale after a Nov. 26, 2017, loss to the Brooklyn Nets in which Gasol was benched the entire fourth quarter.
David Fizdale and Marc Gasol made their peace during a phone conversation over the summer, putting to rest the differences that led Grizzlies management to fire Fizdale in large part due to friction with their franchise center.
David Fizdale makes his return to Memphis as coach of the New York Knicks on Sunday when his new team takes a two-game winning streak against his former club, the Grizzlies. Fizdale was fired 83 games ago -- 19 games into the 2018 season -- after famously benching star big man Marc Gasol for the fourth quarter of a 98-88 home loss to the Brooklyn Nets that dropped the Grizzlies to 7-12. Memphis went just 15-48 the rest of the way under interim coach J.B. Bickerstaff, who was given the full-time gig in the offseason.
